>>The Bibliothek Andreas Züst Residency

The Alpenhof is an inspiring location for a retreat and for working, with opportunities for exchange and relaxation. Situated at 1,110 m.a.s.l. and overlooking the Rhine Valley and Lake Constance, here the landscape conjoins with lingering; the Alpstein mountains with a sea of fog; Eastern Switzerland with overseas; traditional Alpaufzug (procession of cows on mountain paths) with astronomy.

Biannually the Bibliothek Andreas Züst offers three studio residency stipends. The length of a stay is a total of four weeks. Application for the Studio Residency Stipend is open to national and international cultural workers (individuals or teams of up to a maximum of four persons) across disciplines — visual arts, literature, new media, music, theatre, design, architecture, film, photography, and art-related disciplines.

Residency Period: April 2020 / November 2020

Support: Accommodations and use of the studio are free-of-charge, and travel costs are also covered.

>>Al Ma’mal New Residency Program

Every year the foundation hosts a number of artists, researchers, academics and others to research, produce and exhibit new works that engage with our programmes and the community. Each visiting artist is given the opportunity to propose and focus on a particular project whilst in residence, which may be influenced or inspired by the reality of the daily life in the city, the country and the region.

Through this residency programme, the foundation aims to promote Jerusalem’s cultural and artistic scene, create an impact on it, and build bridges for learning and understanding between the city and the world.

Application Deadline:

  • October 30th, 2019 (Residency period: January – June 2020, duration: 1-2 months)
  • 29 February 2020 (Residency period: July – December 2020, duration: 1-2 months)

Support: an all-inclusive studio apartment free of rent in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem, a per diem, as well as a contribution towards production costs and travel costs are also covered (up to $700).

>> Brown Foundation Fellows Program at the Dora Maar House

Located in the village of Ménerbes, in one of the most beautiful regions of southern France, this 18th-century townhouse was purchased in 1944 by Pablo Picasso for Dora Maar, the artist and Surrealist photographer who was his companion and muse in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Maar (1907–1997) owned the house until her death, after which a resident of both Houston and Ménerbes, bought and renovated it to transform it into a retreat for writers, scholars, and artists.

In 2006, the MFAH was asked to direct this project, now called the Brown Foundation Fellows Program at the Dora Maar House. Amenities include four private bedrooms, each with a private bath; three studies for writers and scholars; a studio for artists; a piano. Residents share the kitchen, library, living and dining rooms, and two garden areas. The house is equipped with high-speed wireless Internet access, laptops, a printer, and a fax machine.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston ask Brown Foundation Fellows to donate to the Dora Maar House one drawing, a publication, or other work created during the residency!

Residency Period: one up to three months – beginning July 1 or after & ending no later than November 30

Support: The Brown Foundation Fellowship provides: one to three months in residence at the Dora Maar House, a private bedroom and bath, and a study or studio in which to work, a travel compensation for travel from a fellow’s home to the Dora Maar House, a grant – based upon the length of stay.

>> Residencia Nautilus Residence

Residencia Nautilus Residence is a residence for artists that belongs to a 4-star bungalow resort called Nautilus Lanzarote and is located in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain. Nautilus Lanzarote’s identity is based on Art, Accessibility and Environment, and all our guests agree that the place is a haven of peace. The artists need to donate artwork to Residencia Nautilus Residence.

Application Deadline: 30 September 2020

Residency Period: 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 1 month

Support: apartment free of rent located in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote, Canary Islands, production costs, food and travel costs are also covered.

>> European Media Art Platform

The new European Media Art Platform offers residencies for media artists in the fields of digital media, including Internet and computer-based artists, filmmakers, and those working in media-based performance, sound or video as well as robotics or bio-art.

European artists can apply with a project proposal for a residency at several selected institutions. The residencies are for two months in one of the two scheduled time frames.

Application Deadline: December 2nd, 2019, 12:00 CET

Residency Period: two months in one of the two-time frames, either from March to August 2020 or from January to May 2021

Support: EMARE includes a grant of 3.000 €, a project budget of 4.000 €, free accommodation, travel expenses up to 500 €, free access to the technical facilities and media labs of the host institution, consultation by production and market experts, and a professional presentation as well as the option to participate in exhibition tours at our members festivals in 2020-2021.
