Budapest: Product design in Poland and Hungary since the turn of the millennium
May 9, 2018 - May 28, 2018
This exhibition on Polish and Hungarian design focuses on an industry traditionally referred to as industrial design, recently termed product design, encompassing all industrial objects and devices used in our daily lives. The recent works of Polish and Hungarian designers give different answers to the two countries’ economic and social challenges and their economic and technical possibilities. We can observe some similarities and differences between furniture, transport, lighting, ceramics and social design trends. Polish design is notable for tools used in public spaces, work and everyday life, while Hungary excels at health and sports equipment and toys. The exhibition consists of 72 large-format product photos, 20 items, and videos featuring products.
The exhibition on the two countries’ product design is a result of joint work. The Hungarian partner is the Association of Hungarian Fine and Applied Artists with the financial support of the National Cultural Fund and technical support by of the Hungarian Design Council and the Hungarian Academy of Arts. The Polish organizer is the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, a participant of the POLSKA 100 international cultural program, which was established in celebration of one hundred years of Polish independence. POLSKA 100 is supported by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland in the framework of the NIEPODLEGLA 2017-2021 program.
