Warsaw: ‘Angel Talisman Series’ – exhibition
March 1, 2019 - March 15, 2019
‘ANGEL TALISMAN SERIES’
We cordially invite you to join us and the artist Alicja Domańska to celebrate the opening of exhibition Angel Talisman Series.
Painting is her absolute passion. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, she lives and works in Sopot. She has exhibited e.g. in Warsaw, Sopot, Gdańsk, Kraków, and Łódź as well as in Paris, London, Berlin, Grodno, and Stockholm. She has received the Sopot Muse Award for Culture and Arts (2012); cooperates with theatre, fashion designers, musicians, and architects.
She believes that art calls for a proper exhibition and background, painted images being an integral part of the entire project. She is in- spired by outside reality, processing on her canvases situations, places, people, and dreams, offering them a totally new, oneiric quality. For her, painting is a metaphor of a rite of passage, allowing entry into an unrecognized order and becoming subjected to its unique principles, with emotions always playing the main role.
The artist is not afraid of experiments and invites artists of different elds to her painting projects. Hers is a very sensual and expressive painting. Her work is exhibited in galleries and can be found in private and public collections worldwide.
“Alicja Domańska is an extraordinary character in the Polish artistic scene. In her art, she boldly draws from varied traditions and trends such as American action painting or European tachisme. I am convinced that the energy in Alicja’s painting moves not only me, but also those who encounter her works in person. To all those who have an opportunity to see Domańska’s works, I wish an excellent artistic experience, and to the author I wish that she constantly develops her passion, since she has an enormous talent.”
– Wojciech Fibak
The art of Alicja Domańska is born out of a free painter’s gesture which derives its strength from the artist’s vitality and energy.
Paradoxically, her paintings, usually large-sized canvases, correspond to the artist’s small gure. Her large formats, often diptychs and triptychs, remain however in proportion to her height and physical range of her arm, extended by a brush. Her work demonstrates a kind of artistic ergonomy. We can say that she actually calls out entire elds of her canvases with herself, her energy and physical presence.
– Boguslaw Deptula
“I like to watch Domańska paint. Focused and silent. Absent, or rather present everywhere but by the canvas. Immersed in her inner worlds, she seems more like a shaman than a painter. There is authentic magic and fierceness, and the power of the painting act “happening” at the moment resembles a sexual act. So sensual that it becomes sinless.”
– Andrzej Saramonowicz
